How to Get DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT for Free (PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch)

Playing through Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was very much like experiencing a re-watch of the series all over again. There’s a ton to love in this game and you can really experience what it was like irl. Not only do you have your favorite faces, but there’s more action than ever before!

The Dragon Ball franchise has had a long history, first being launched in the 1980s with fighting and action games and even a few RPGs. Unfortunately, most of those attempts into the RPG genre have been mediocre at best, with many never leaving the sh

Dragon Ball RPGs weren’t appealing to everyone; they were only appealing to fans of the series.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot attempts to change that, as it appeals not only to the fans of the series, but introduces enough high-quality story and game elements to make it a decent RPG even for newcomers… to a degree.

In this unusual single player campaign, there are two major elements of play: the action-packed gameplay, which is what Bandai Namco is known for, and exploration.

The use of RPG elements sprinkled in some of this game’s narrative is a fluff that is ultimately pointless or distracting.

Since Kakarot is using mostly melee strikes, you should fight back with your melee and ranged tools — the latter of which can be as small as a short dash.

The battles in advance of the open world exploration are cinematic and anime-like, bolstered by the visual prowess that Play Arts Kai is so good at. It can feel basic most of the time, especially early on when you’re learning the controls.

And because of how it’s built, the game is rigged to be easy in the beginning and difficult at the end. There isn’t really a way to push up or down on player difficulty.

Sometimes fights in sports can seem like slobberknockers and others might feel “over before it started”, but most matches are a give-and-take experience.

We get the whole motif of “this is dark, this is serious” at the end of CyberConnect2’s anime-inspired scenes and that tension could be better executed–like with the characters’ desperation supers in Azure Striker Gunvolt’s final battle.

Kakarot for the first time in a while has run into some great low-key moments. Trying to focus on these big moments, such as Goku’s Ordeal, is a smart move.

Kakarot is still a lengthy game that takes you on an emotional journey, but if you are in the right mindset then it doesn’t feel too long to play. You may even take breaks if needed.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is not the anime game to end all anime games. It’s not going to convert any non-believers or onboard them into this decades-old classic universe. Even as someone who still re-watches DBZ, it can be grating at times.
